MLK

Today was Martin Luther King Jr. day. Besides from having a 3 day weekend (which always excites me) I woke up thinking about how much my life would be different if it hadn't been for MLK. I wouldn't be in college for starters, I would not be able to have a lot of my friends (because of their race), I would not be able to vote, eat in restaurants and when I took public transportation I would have to sit in the back of the bus and if there were no african american taxi drivers I would have to walk everywhere if I couldn't take a cab. I'm originally from Sacramento, California. Every year they do a huge MLK walk and celebration. This year was a march to the convention center. It was thousands of people marching for someone who fought for what he believed in. The march started at three different places: A high school in the north area of the city, a community college in the south area and a community center also in the south area. Seeing so many different races and different age groups at the march was truly liberating. It was nice to be surrounded by peace for once because it is constantly violence in the city. MLK changed everyones lives regardless of age, race, sexuality, etc.
